It is fun to look back at things that happened the same day years before, and see how things have changed, or where the road has taken us. Four years ago today Logan proposed to me. When I brought it up this morning, he asked me why I remembered that. I replied by describing the week preceeding the big question. That Monday was February 14, Valentine's Day. I was housesitting for our branch president from the singles ward in Juneau. Logan got balloons for my roommates, and I drove over and delivered them while they were at school. (He has always impressed me with how mindful he is of others). I decorated branch president's house with hearts I'd made, and got things ready for a nice dinner before I went to classes for the day. Then, Logan borrowed a spare house key from the family, and decorated the house while I was in class. When I came home I thought someone had broken in and torn up the place ... (my old roommates will laugh at this, and know first hand how I react to situations like that!!!) Turns out it was streamers all over the living room! There were balloons, flowers, and even some fun treats.
Logan had asked what my favorite flavors of jelly beans were. I told him I liked green apple, watermelon, and peach. He got a vase and put green apple and orange jelly bellies in it. I had forgotten that I'd told him my favorite flavors, and thought his flavor choices were interesting. So I asked him about it, and he said, "They are your favorite flavors". I laughed, cause he remembered the right colors, and it was very sweet!

We had a nice dinner, and then later that week, we had a date set for Friday, February 18th. I was scheduled to leave for a conference in Salt Lake City, Utah that Saturday morning. I was busy that Friday preparing my poster for the conference, packing, and getting everything ready for the trip. Little did I know that Logan was secretly making preparations of his own. We went out to Auke Rec (Auke Bay Recreation Area) for a tin foil dinner picnic and some roasted marshmallows. I was getting a cold, and remember having lots of cough drops, and dressing warmly, because a clear evening in February can be cold in Alaska.

Logan seemed a bit nervous, but I thought it was just that he was going to be a bit lonely while I was gone for the week. He told me he'd gotten something for me, and pulled out some Benders (magnetic, bendable, posable people). He'd gotten the camping set. He pulled out the girl and the boy, and their accessories. He told me he'd set up the boy, and I could pose the girl. Well I had the girl all set up, and turned to watch what he was doing. He seemed to be taking lots of time, and wasn't really talking. I noticed the fishing pole was missing from the set, but didn't say anything, cause I thought it wasn't a big deal. Well, he finished getting them all set up, and then started talking about how the week was going to be long and lonely. I thought, Oh no! he's gonna be lonely. I gotta cheer him up. I was talking about how it was only a week, and it would be ok. He came around the table to sit by me and said something like he could handle a week, but he wanted to make sure we were together for eternity. It was very sweet and cute. Then he pulled out the fishing rod and on the end was a beautiful ring.

Its kinda funny, because he told me later that he was really nervous, and that it felt like forever before I said yes. I remember it a bit differently. I realized when I saw the ring that all the odd behavior meant he was nervous. He asked me to marry him, and (though he thinks he paused) he kept talking without giving me a chance to respond. He finally did pause, and I, obviously, said "YES"!.

The next morning I left for Utah, and was able to find my dress, shoes, and veil.

We were married that next May (I'll do a post in May about all the crazy stories from that week!), and have been living our happily ever after ever since. It is fun to look back around Valentine's Day and the 18th of February and remember the fun time of dating, getting engaged, and the good memories we have together. Especially this year where our time together is limited, I find myself remembering some of our best times together, and wanting to preserve them and add to them as well. Well, I love you Logan!!! Thanks for a fabulous four years!!!
