We had a wonderful celebration for the anniversary of my birth yesterday, including a rather interesting moment. My girl decided that she was the mom and I was the kid (not an uncommon occurrence). We got home from running errands, and she said, "Elise, it is time to open a present for your birthday. I am your Mama, so I will help you." I tried to explain that it was Mama's birthday, but she repeatedly insisted that I was wrong. So she got one of the Christmas presents labeled 'Elise', and opened it for me. How helpful! It turned out to be some dinosaurs from Grandma. My girl was thrilled, and quickly reverted back to being Elise so she could play with the new friends while I (Mama) made lunch. I am not sure my girl actually understood whose birthday it was, but she was all about celebrating.
And my sweet husband got up early (5 am) and made 8 dozen cookies for our Relief Society meeting that night, so Elise and I wouldn't have to bake all day. And he drove us to the meeting, in the ice and snow, and took care of the nursery so the women could put Christmas boxes together for the Salvation Army. He is wonderful!
And the day before, we took Elise ice skating for the first time. It was so much fun! I've only been skating a few times myself, and it has been a LONG time since then, but we had a good time, and didn't have a single fall. I did sustain an injury - I picked up my girl so she could see Daddy skating, and her skate hit my thigh, leaving a huge bruise, but other than that, it was a way fun outing. We found out they offer a parent/tot class, for kids under 5, and we're gonna try to go to that when we are back from vacation.
And we finally took a family picture last Sunday. Even though there was a lot of snow outside, we all sat together on the porch swing and posed for several pictures. This is the only one of the three of us that came out ok.
And the ones of Elise were all so cute, (even though she hardly ever looked at the camera,) that it is hard to pick a favorite! But here are a couple of my sweet grown up girl!
We would love to be able to visit all of our family and friends in the coming weeks, but it just isn't going to be feasible this year.....so instead, from far away.....We wish you all a wonderful holiday season! Merry Christmas!
